Campaigns and Projects

We have been running Hogwatch since 2015. It is a survey to find out where there are hedgehogs in the area and to try to increase their numbers.

Bees project

We are planting bee friendly areas around Penistone and encouraging people to have gardens which are better for bees.

In the past we have also run:

  • An energy saving campaign including loaning energy monitors, providing house energy saving surveys and raising awareness of ways people can save energy in their homes including visiting 8 local schools
  • Supported the planning application for wind turbines at Sheephouse Heights, believing that the local problems were outweighed by the need for renewable energy to reduce climate changing emissions
  • Supported national Friends of the Earth campaigns about renewable energy, waste, bees and climate change, asking local people to call on the government to protect our environment
  • Investigated the opportunities for sustainable housing in our area, including visits, an open meeting and putting responses into local development plans.
  • We have held election Questions Time meetings at each national election since 2010.
  • River Don Energy – we investigated a hydro electric scheme on the River Don and found funding for a feasibility study.
  • Penistone Carry-a-Bag In 2008 we ran a successful campaign to cut the number of one trip carrier bags being used in Penistone.
